Together this list comprises roughly 500 insightful works covering a wide range of topical interests. Please let us know if you have others to add here. Marcel Proust has said, "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." ASF's goal is to promote better observation, measurement, understanding and guidance of the accelerations and efficiencies that are constantly emerging in our increasingly technological world. With better foresight we learn to distinguish kinds of accelerations that are continually renewed (e.g., computation, process efficiencies) from those that are more cyclic, periodic, or of limited lifespan (e.g., the economy, specific technologies, particular industries and business models). We learn to see and reward the kinds of change we prefer (productivity, connectivity, compassion, security, liberty, justice) and to minimize the kinds we do not (zero- and negative-sum disruption, discrimination, nonsustainability). We have selected these in an attempt to help you and your institution:
We hope they help you to see existing markets, technologies and social phenomena "with new eyes." While at Stanford you may wish to peruse these fascinating books, at Stanford Bookstore, the largest and best academic bookstore on the West Coast, just steps away from our conference site at Tressider Union.
